Full course description

This is a self-paced course in the fake Earth Science Program. This test course is the first of three example courses on geology topics. This introductory geology course will introduce the scientific methodology applied to study common rock-forming minerals, common rocks, topographic maps, and geologic features!

Course Objectives

By the end of the course you will be able to:

  • Apply the scientific method to investigate real-world geological problems
  • Identify common rock forming minerals
  • Identify common igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks
  • Interpret and compare features on topographic and geologic maps
  • Estimate features (like floodplains) on topographic maps 
  • Predict, evaluate risk, and plan for geologic problems
  • Integrate knowledge of scientific concepts and principles for real-world geologic applications
